'Allo all.

Is the headlight reflector on the classic 3s a standard universal item? i.e The same fitments as any 7" headlight for most motorcycles.

Someone decided to break mine with a bottle of vodka yesterday so now I need to replace it ASAP. Looking for alternatives to the stock item. Thought about a honda hornet unit or similar.

Thanks, Wayne

Wayne,

As far as I know, you should be able to source a standard 7" headlight. I had to buy a UK spec headlight unit to swap over with the European unit fitted to my first TBird (which was imported from France). It was generic 7" H4 Hella unit I got from my local dealer - wasn't particularly expensive either from what I can remember. Just remember to order the one with the pilot light - some of them don't have this.

Adjure Ice if you want something with a different look. But they don't have the pilot light.

Its just a stock 7" hella unit. A car spares shop will likely be able to help out. If you want a really good upgrade get a Cibie 7inch HCR with pilot light

I went for the cheap JC Whitney version.

It's great if you need a light for your tractor. kit:

Thanks for the info guys. As i thought about the standard 7" reflector. I thought it looked suspiciously like the ones off my old Austin Mini. I managed to pick up a rather groovy looking chrome headlight unit with just enough space in the pod for all the spaggetti. Cost less than 1/3 the price of the Triumph unit. Gotta love 'em.

Next sunny day i'm not working I'll clean and polish and have pics of all the recent minor mods to show. And if I ever get my digital recorder back i'll do some sound bytes of the Thunderbike 3-1!!

Thanks again for all the help.

Wayne

Though it may not be important, I believe that relectors for motorcycles have a different pattern (whihc means that the vertical beam spread is too far apart).
