I'll be brief:

1999 Adventurer (bot used last year).

Rear tire flat last weekend.

Triumph doesn't make a center stand for this model.

So, I bot a Pit Bull stand.

Raise bike, but stand interferes slightly with exhaust.

So, I take off pipes off...headers included since the exhaust tips are seized onto the head pipes.

Probably going to take heat to remove.

And the strange part: The exhaust pipes say they meet EPA standards (etc., etc.) for a HARLEY-DAVIDSON Sportster 883/1200.

I have seen photos of other Adventurers of the '99 vintage and noticed that their exhaust pipes looke different than mine but really didn't pay much attention.

I suspect removal of the exhaust pipes will get rough...and damage possible.

Comments, questions, observations???

I had heard once before that sportster pipes will fit the Adventurer but this is the first bike I have heard of with them fitted. the suggestion was that you could get very cheap pipes (to drill out) if you knew somebody at the local hardly dealer as almost every owner has them swapped when the bikes are new.

Can I make a suggestion,,,,,

Why not modify the lift to fit around the pipes?
Maybe bolt a few blocks of wood to the stand that will not interfere with the pipes.

.

I stuided how I might modify the bike stand but I really don't see a practical & safe way of doing so.

Plus, the exhaust pipes should be removable.

And.....I wonder if the off-road pipes for my ancient bike are still available?

Thanks.

It was just a thought.

I use a engine hoist to lift my bike.
I remove the seat and use nylon straps attached to the tail frame. I lift the bike by just the tail if all I need to do is remove the rear. if I need to lift the whole bike I use another strap attached to the front.

I have to remove the mufflers to adjust the chain on my 96 Adventurer. The first time I almost gave up trying to get them off the header pipes. Then my son suggested I spray WD-40 in and around the joints where the muffers meet the pipes. Now I soak them, let them sit for 5 or 10 minutes then just wiggle them off. Works like a charm.

Interesting about the Sportster pipes. Harleys have 1 3/4" pipes and our Triumphs have 1 1/2" pipes (at least mine does). One would have to use an adapter to make the mufflers fit.

I've entertained the idea of a center stand myself but haven't found a situation where I really thought it was necessary...yet.

Also, British-USA in South Houston, TX probably has off-road pipes for your bike. Their web address is www.british-usa.com. Check 'em out

rigby,

You are correct regarding 1.75" (muffler) versus 1.5" header diameters. However mounted the pipes put what appears to be a bronze collar to take up the .25" diff in diameter.

I plan on standing the pipes up and trying the WD40 or penetrating oil soak job and see how that works.

The link to www.british-usa.com didn't work for me.

Hmmm...the web address didn't work for me just now either. Maybe their server is down.

If you're interested you could try giving them a shout at 713-944-7951.

They have all sorts of parts and pieces and they're real friendly folks too.
