I've been told by Triumph techs that the triple, with proper maintenance, can get over 100,000 miles with no major problems. I plan to test that statement. I have over 31.000 on my 2000 model and have done nothing but scheduled maintenance. Stay on top of those oil changes and enjoy one of the most reliable designs in motorcycling!

There is a story of a London despatch rider who clocked up over 250,000 miles (400,000km) on an 885 Daytona. Triumph took it back and gave him a new one.

As a TBS should be much less stressed than a Daytona, life expectancy looks good. :-D

RAF,

If you take care to warm the engine before using it hard, do regular oil changes etc, there is no reason these mildly tuned engines should not run to 100K plus miles.

OTHH, if you regularly red-line it from a cold start, skip maintenance and generally abuse it, then you'll drastically shorten its life.

'Bike' magazine in the UK ran an article on a Triumph triple (Trident) which was used by the German magazine 'MO' for 100K Kms (60K miles). It was stripped down back at the Triumph factory and was still in almost new condition with very little wear. Biggest problem I think (now re-designed I believe) was 3 x failures of the sprag clutch in the starter.
