Hi everyone,
I have been riding a friend's Adventurer and now am thinking about buying my first bike in 25 years. I have found two choices
1. A 2000 TBS in perfect condition with only 7k miles for $4700.
or
2. A 2002 TB in great condition with 20K miles for $3600.
What are the differences in riding with the different tires, brakes etc.
Also is 20K alot on a TB or can these bikes put alot of miles on with no problems? Please tell me your stories.
Also which has more aftermarket items that you can still get for it.
Thanks for your help.
Dave

In favor of the TBS are the dual disks up front, the adjustable suspension front and rear, and a better choice of tires due to the 17" front. After that it largely depends on how the bike fits you and your riding style. The standard bird has more relaxed ergos, while the TBS is a bit sportier. Take them both for a ride (or at least sit on them) before you buy, then decide if the above justifies the increased price.
Hope that helps.

TBS has better chassis components if you want to ride harder, although you can uprate Tbird brakes and suspension.I've done this as I've kept the bike a long time so the investement is worth it to get the bike as I want it. My 95 Tbird has 35000 miles on it (mostly by me) and the bike looks and runs like new. The engine is a detuned version of the already over-engineered Trident (which can easily do 100,000 miles) so is bullet proof. Like any 2nd handbike the condition will depend on if previous owners have maintained them. Choice is as much down to styl;e as anything. You won't be disappointed. If you are happy with the Adventurer then the Tbird will be similar.

Buy the TBS
but check the insurance difference, in some areas it may put you off.

IMO, both prices are good... 20K miles won't be a problem at all as long as maintenance is up to date (I'd check on that). I bought a '99 TB with 16K and it has been great.
The big differences are what everybody else says: position, suspension, brakes.
I think you should choose based on a test ride... if the TBS impresses you that much more... and the price isn't a big deal, go for it.

TBS is my vote. Low miles, great bike. Heck, both are great bikes. :hammer:

And guys, what bike was it that courier was using over in England that got 250k miles on it? I thought it had an 885cc triple motor in it.

I've had both the T-Bird Standard and the T-Bird Sport. The Sport is definatel;y quicker, handles a lot better, and much better brakes. But I prefer the look of the standard. Let me know which one you don't buy, and I'll buy it! I miss my T-Birds.

Sounds like the sport is in the lead. I have not made a final decision but will be talking to the dealer with the sport tomorrow.
I have not heard about this currier with 250k miles on his triple. Was the trident a sport bike with the same 885 engine as the T Bird?
You have each really helped me in my decision. Since many of you have said that the Sport is quicker reacting does that mean it is less stable on the highway or is it even more stable because of the better suspension.
