Have been following the 'Dyno' thread with much interest. Whilst trawling through various threads came across a photo of a modified secondary airbox on a late model Adventurer. This had been disconnected from the main airbox and converted into a tool box. Is this recommended and if so, are there any additional precautions necessary in respect to air flow.

Regards

Murray.

The first airbox (under the side cover) perfoms two functions: as a 'velocity drop' air filter to precipitate particulates in the airstream and as an expansion chamber to reduce carburetor intake noise.

With a highly modified air filter box, the first airbox becomes redundant and can be used as a tool box with no problems.

With an unmodified filter box I'd recommend leaving it alone, but if you absolutely have to mess with it don't go over half full and don't put anything in the airstream on it or it might have a negative impact on performance.

I have seen this mod done on a couple Triumphs but personally I don't know anyone that would "recommend" it other then someone that needs to have another place for there smokes.

Best case you can hold some tools. Work case..you can suck in some tools.

Up to you. Simple enough mod I would imagen if you get a screen of some type and an exacto knife.

My primary airbox was already Swiss cheesed. I plugged the outlet of the secondary/sidecover box and opened the top. I have the slightest of lean condition when it is cold out and the bike is cold. But only until it warms up and if I hadn't have known how the bike ran before I wouldn't have felt it. You can always take out the little connector pipe (rubber union) and see how it runs before hacking the box (plug the secondaryu box so you are in the complete 'future' condition). And it is nice to have virtually any tool I will want under neath and not in an external bag (that may no be with me when needed -- or strewn down the road after the fall).
