I took my 1999 Adventurer to the shop the other day and was told that the previous owner had installed aftermarket pipes without re-jetting the carbs. He told me that it would cause rough running.

Has anyone run after market pipes without the re-jet? What kind of symptoms did it exhibit?

I have a problem with what appears to be a miss in the engine under heavy acceleration at 3000 RPM or so. There is also some stalling intermittantly at other times. Does this mesh with the re-jet issue?

I have teh slashcuts on my '96 Adventurer and it runs beautifully without rejetting. I have read many problems from people rejetting incorrectly (or paying a shop to do it wrong) and have heard of no significant issues with the "off road" pipes without changing jets --- other than popping on deceleration which won't be eliminated by jets but can be reduced by richening the mixture a bit.

Your problems may be related to other issues -- perhaps the prior owner tried some different jets on their own?

I have to agree. Over the years the only side effect from the off-roads has been an increase in popping on decel if you leave the stock carb settings in place.

I have an occasional miss under heavy acceleration but I think it's related to a rich condition. This condition occurred after having to have rust removed from the tank and the carbs rebuilt.

Thanks guys,
That info helped. I may be one of the poor owners with a paint problem in the tank. I will keep looking.

Nope. It will run a bit leaner but not rough.

If your idle is rough and the carbs have been balanced and there are no other mods, it should idle smoothly.

Unless there's been bad re-jetting, that sounds more like an ignition coil issue.

My 2K Adventurer had a rough idle and occasional misfire at around 3,000 rpm. Dyno runs (after rejetting) showed no visible problems and I probably wouldn't have found the coil problem if it hadn't become intermittant.

Replacing the coils with Nology coils cured both problems.

FWIW, the hardest carburetor problem to find is electrical!
