OK so I bought the TBird on Saturday. Changed the oil, flushed the cooling system, rode 50 miles and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Now the serious work begins, here are my questions.

If I don't turn off the petcock overnight, there will be a puddle of gas under th bike. Assuming I have to rebuild the carbs, or a least the leftmost one.

Also the rubber pieces from the carb to the engine are cracked. I have read hear that I should switch them out for the later, less restrictive ones. Is this correct? If I do switch them out and everything else is stock do I need to rejet?

Next question is, if I don't get good pricing or service from my local Triumph dealer, where is a good place to buy the carb rebuild kit and rubber pieces online?

Also I like the look of the fork boots. Where can I buy a pair?

I am sure I will have many more questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

I always try to turn the petcock off, but on the odd occasion I don't it has not been a problem. Can't help with the Carb questions, sorry, as for the fork boots, they are gaitors I got mine from Belacorse. Enjoy your new ride.

Take texastri's advice on the gaiters, I did and I love them. Had not heard or seen the post regarding the carb boots, if they are cracked then they must be replaced. No jetting regardless of which type you replace with. They will cause you to run lean if they are leaking. Petcock issue you are going to have to be more specific. There are a few things that could be happening. Couple of suggestions, look at the fuel line first, if the carb rubbers are dry rotted then it may be also. Look at the bowls of the carbs for any gas stains, this would indicate possible bowl gasket issue or loose bowl. Be sure the bowl drain screws are secure. I suspect this first because another issue could be a float valve not seating allowing fuel to over fill the carb and run off the overflow. If the bike starts and runs fine then this would be unlikely. If it starts hard fouling a cylinder and that cyl is late in firing when the others come online, then I might suspect the float valve for that cyl. Good luck.

Re gas puddling - if the bike is running right, then the solution is to always make sure the petcock is turned off when you get off the bike.

Re rubbers, you can quickly verify if they are the restrictive type by the dimples. You should be able to id these either visually or by running your finger around.

I'd say support your local dealer unless you don't get on with him? Otherwise PJ's, Great Bay and another that I can't recall right now offer good mail order. Also, bikebandit.com offer some OEM parts.

I haven't turned my petcock off since I bought the bike and have had no problems.
