This is my first British bike for about 30 odd years and I'd been hoping that quality control problems were a thing of the past. Just about everything that is chromed on my less than 1 year old TBS is having to be replaced under warantee, and that includes the plastic fittings. Even some of the paintwork is suspect. Is this a one off or have any of you had the same problem? I wonder if these parts were salvaged from the fire? I can't help feeling rather disapointed about the whole thing as I've had quite a few Jap bikes that still looked good after several years of hard work in all weathers.
Sorry for your troubles. On my '01 Tbird the only finish problem I noticed is some slight bubbling on the paint on the rear fender which I had to touch up. No chrome problems at all. Others will likely have different experiences but mine have been largely positive as to finish and appearance.
Having a Legend, I obviously can't say much about the chrome finish - but my 2001 Legend with 12k miles on it still looks shiny new. (when it's washed and polished of curse) No signs of poor finish whatsoever on paintwork or chrome/alloy.
These days it have signs of sloppy ownership - but I just can't be bothered to wash it every other day in this weather. I'll give it the works when I put it away for the winter.

My 98 Thunderbird is used in all weathers on a daily basis and I must agree with Slinky - it comes up like new every time. The only evidence that the chrome has seen rain is on the front nearside indicator arm which I suspect is not original anyway.
It is kept in a heated garage however at the expense of two "souless" tin boxes which cost a lot more. Is this true love ????

I have a '02 T'bird and can say that the quality of finish is very good. No complaints as yet and yes it has been out in the rain including the day I bought it. Sounds like you did get a bad one but at least it's being fixed under warranty.

Thanks all for the comforting replies! Seems like I may have just got a bit of a duff one, and I can't complain about Triumph's quick response to sort out the problems.
