After replacing my handlebars and installing a shorter brake line, the master cylinder developed a leak. I will follow the advice here to fix.

The reason I am writing is with respect to the screws, they are pozidrive not your regular phillips. This could explain the problems with stripping the heads. The little dot on the screw head indicates pozidrive. Forgive me if I'm telling anyone how to suck eggs.

Wow! this was an old thread.

It's also worth noting that giving the screwdriver a sharp tap on the handle end with a small hammer while engaged with the screw can help break corrosion / stiction etc. on these screws.

Just checked out the brake and clutch master cylinders on my '03 TBS because the brake master leaked a bit after a bumpy ride. I cleaned up both bellows and caps and leaving the bellows fully extended I refitted them. Both cylinders were at the correct level and both pushed out brake fluid when I screwed the caps down. (Not to tight; I read the previous posts!) Should this have happened or should the bellows have been compressed?

Cheers, Bob

the bellows should have been compressed.

If fluid still squeezes out when you do it with the bellows compressed then they are a tad overfull.
