Replaced left cover seal as per Hayne's instructions. Removed mandrel immediately prior to fitting then once cover is torqued up leave all for at least 15 min. Now, once again, airbox taking in excessive oil! Sump level correct, running Morris 10/40 semi synthetic API SF/SG. Seal cost $NZ75. Some are saying replace the spinner as new models have a metal bearing surface for the (next) new seal!!!!!!! Have a K & N filter fitted so do not want mineral oil contaminating it.

Anyone tried these stainless steel oil filters from Scot's? They seem to be the go as Triumph (NZ) rip us off here for genuine one's.

It may take a week or two for the oil in the filter box to drain out. You've also got a bunch of oil in the vent line from the engine that needs to clear.

Give the fix some time to work.

Hi Jim

all hoses and airbox cleaned of oil prior to fitting new seal. All okay for 350 miles then noticed oil leak from air box! Removed carbs. and split airbox. Same as before, excess oil!>

Regards

Murray.

If you are still sucking oil past the seal, I'll bet you deformed it during reassembly. I had to try it a couple of times before I got it right. I found it handy to expand the opening in the seal a little more with my pinkie. Just be careful not to tear it and allow some extra time (an hour or more maybe) before starting the bike.

Cheers Stan

was as careful as humanly possible when replacing cover. Point taken though, have kept mandrel so will take cover off, insert mandrel and inspect seal and seal bearing surface on oil flinger shaft once again. Great bike, but this breather system is to much! What was wrong with a simple rocker cover to air box system hose?

Regards
Murray.

sometimes you need to replace the centrifugal breather assembly and not just the seal. I saw this on a legend once.

You should also take the air filter box off, dismantle it and clean / reoil the filter if you have been getting a lot up there.

Cheer's Mick

have ordered a new breather assembly and seal, so hear's hoping.

My Adventurer was imported from the States about August last year, I am told, from California. It is red and black and the previous owner was up with the play enough to fit a K&N, Triumph slash cut mufflers and re-jet the carbs. Very few of this model in New Zealand as they were not imported by Dealers. Has no emission gear fitted. Goes like a streak of weasel piss and frightens some Harley owners!

Engine number is 394DJ1112549. Would anyone recognise that? Like to contact the previous owner, he/she might be on this board?

Regards

Murray.
