Had my eye on one of the Hinckley classics but was sidetracked for awhile by a 1 liter K bike.
Anyone EVER think about or know where to increase displacement on this family of bikes? I'm spoiled with 90HP and 63 ft lbs of torque, even on a 19 year old bike. I like the better specs on the T bird sport. Not wild about the seating position . . . . (which is a similar reason I'm considering selling the BMW)
Anybody ever wonder how to get these engines up to 1000-1100 cc?? Or know who does it?
Thanks

Search this forum (Hincklry Classics) for the keyword Daytona. You will turn up lots of threads on various options for increasing power, plus websites for suppliers etc etc

It's a lot of work (and money) but the 955i pistons and liners can be fitted. That job involves machining out the cases.
There is a lot more power to be had with cam and jetting mods. The classics are a detuned version of an engine which made about 98bhp. The biggest difference is the cams, and all the cams are interchangeable.

I did it in my Super III. If you decided to do it with your bike it would be easier due to the lower compression ratio for the Classic line vs. the Super III.
It's expensive, I think I have just under $5000.00 in the rebuild. But, I also had the intake valves increased by 2mm. If you didn't do that you could knock off $500.
Here is the link to my initial thread: Clicky

It can be done for less if one doesn't mind putting used components in. I'm thinking seriously about this same conversion in my '95 T-Bird. It needs the starter sprag replaced anyway. If I could buy a low mile 955 mill out of a wrecked bike - especially a Daytona - for anywhere less than twice what the sprag parts cost, I'd jump all over it. That'd give me the liners, pistons, rods, cams and valve springs PLUS the upgraded sprag and attending pieces. A couple hundred more for paper and oil and I'm up about 40 HP.
Hmmm....I'm thinking baaad thoughts here. The '05 Speed Triple is now 1050 cc's due to a longer stroke. I wonder how long it'll be before the crank and rods are available as service replacements. Would it be okay to put my house up for sale in the Classified Section? :-D

You can put your house up there, if you think you find anybody willing to live in Kent
Please keep us posted if you do end up upgrading w/ Daytona parts... I'd love to hear how it goes. +40hp, oo-er missus!

Hey, hey! Easy there crosstie. You don't want to suffer the wrath of the Hunks of South King County. Lucky for you there's a kegger at the gravel pit this Saturday so most will be too busy to exact their revenge.
And Slinky, that very story was the inspiration for my desire to increase the displacement of my 885. The only thing I might change is to have some port work done to the head to make better use of Daytona cams.

That is Jim Bush. I have seen and heard that bike in person. It sounds FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! It has a real bumba-bumba rumble to it. I have NEVER heard a TBS or Thunderbird that sounded like that at idle!!!

LOL!
What is it w/ you Boeing Engineers and your gravel-pit keggers? :-D
Fortunately I live in the tony 'burbs of Shoreline, and I have my own kegerator, so I don't have to worry about gravel in my boots...
Slinky thanks for the article... 100+hp classic... thinking bad thoughts
