Tried doing this on my own, but find the need to consult the "Oracle"....
Bought my first bike this fall, a 2000 Legend, and absolutely love it, although I have been torturing myself over this exhaust issue for months now. I have made my guy start his Bonnie up before me so as not to be embarrassed by my "sewing machine". I know she has so much more potential!
Spent the weekend trying to fit the aftermarket Helix Mufflers:
http://www.ridegear.com/rg/F-26728.h...57&PID=1729136

Needless to say, the clamps don't fit and repacking looks crazy. We ended up taking the insides of a Dunstall replica and fitting it to the Helix with a bit of sawing and repacking. Sounds O.K. Looks O.K. Not real jazzed though.

Now, just for kicks we temp fitted a D&D to it... Holy *****,
sounds Beasty!! (as you all knew it would) Although I'm not sure I wouldn't be run out of the neighborhood or arrested by the end of the first week. What also came of it is the realization that I really like the upswept pipe look on my Legend.

This brings me to the following questions:

1. I read a thread about some type of additional baffle to make the D&Ds a bit more acceptable to the general public. Can I get more info on this? Any pics on a Legend/T-Bird?

2. Also Strongly considering the Predators, really like the look - Are they a bit longer (24"?) and smaller in circumference than the stock (17")? Are they repackable? The manufacturer told me it was a mechanical baffle that would never require repacking? Any pics? Any audio of the Predators? Additional adjustments to my Legend?

Thanks, O' Great Ones!

:???: :???:

Here's a pic of my '99 Legend with the Predators. They come up a bit higher than the stock pipe and may cause problems if you have saddle bags.

I love 'em. Gives the bike a nice growl.

I pulled my D&D's this winter to wrap them with a dirt bike kit. Found that they already were wrapped, though very tightly and covered with packing tape (the fiberglass reinforced kind). Figuring that maybe they were too tight, I went ahead and installed the new stuff, using safety wire to hold it on and putting some extra near the rear end. I don't think it had much affect. All I can tell is that it is slightly lower in frequency, but not any quieter. Going to have to try something else. I have not tried my pipes with nothing in them. Don't know how loud they would e, but I don't want to know.

Thanks for the info! The Predators look great on the Legend... so I ordered them. Ordered a K&N filter as well

Trying to figure out the jets and getting a couple very different answers:
- Mains @ stock (98?), pilots at 40 (1 shim on the needle)
- Main @ 135, pilot at Stock (per British Customs)
- or a Dyno Jet Kit?????
There was another suggestion thrown in there as well.

I was told that I would have to shorten the header just a bit on one side and shorten the pipe on the other side for fitting them.
I will post however it works out............

BTW, D&Ds are out due to the volume since I live in the city and ride almost daily.

It was a little tough, but I got them on without any modification.

Sean at Bristish Customs was a big help.

The one thing you need to know is that the bracket on the Predators mounts outside the frame NOT inside like the stock ones. Not knowing this can cause great agony during installation.

I've got D&D's on my TBS and I was worried about the noise too. I loaned the TBS to a buddy and rode with him on my V-star and I have to admit, the bike seems a lot louder when you're on it. Now I just put in some earplugs before I ride and go easy on the throttle around churches and schools. And of course, when I ride through my housing development at 5:30 on my way to work. I love the sound, it really transforms the bike from a vacuum cleaner you can ride to a real wail-o-matic. If anyone whines about the sound, and I doubt that they will, drown them out with your throttle hand. Distance with a quickness makes the bike less loud for the pedestrians and box drivers.

Thanks for the tip on the brackets!

Seans been helping me on this as well. He has suggested the following on the jets:
130 main, 42 pilot then....
135 main no change on pilot
He also referred me to another fellow who has Predators on his Legend
w/ the main at 98 (stock) and the pilot at 40

I am sooooo confused! :???:
Any help on the jets??

You should be OK with stock jetting only if you DON'T mess with the air intake. Since you're going to go with the K&N highflow airfilter you'll need to rejet.

With the stock air filter box (single inlet -- no mods to the filter box) and the new silencers:

#38 pilot (stock) or #40
#100 main jet (#102 maximum)
One 0.5mm shim under the stock needle or Factory Pro needles with clips at the bottom position
Mixture screws at 2.5 turns

If you try and run #130 or #135 main jets with the stock filter box the bike will not run over approx. 5000 rpm.

#130 to #135 main jets are for modified air intake systems or can be used on bikes with the stock Trophy/Tiger style filter box.

Ordered the K&N Filter, as suggested by a fellow Legend/Predator owner referred by Sean @ BC. British Customs sent send all the suggested jets in my previous post. I'll keep your info in mind..... Good Stuff! Thanks.
BTW, I just happen to be less than a mile from a Triumph dealer w/ a dyno, sooo........
