hello again,

I dont have the original toolkit for my tbird.

What should I have with me for 150-200 mile rides? What are common things that can stop the ride?

Thanks
wabbit

It makes no difference what or how much you pack. The tool you want is always the one you decided you didn't need.

You will need a set of torx bits. And Allen Keys. A long reach plug spanner would be a good idea too.
I carry a leatherman multi tool under the seat but not a lot else.

I don't know, wabbit, maybe you WILL get twice as many replies by posting the same question twice. :-D

Seriously, you really can't carry enough tools to do much, and you won't be far from home. I carry the obvious: duct tape, pliers, screw drivers, hex wrenches, crescent wrench, duct tape, plug wrench, some metric sockets, ratchet, extensions, duct tape, multimeter, thin wire, duct tape. Did I mention duct tape?

Never use any of that. SO the best thing to carry is a cell phone and the number to a MOTORCYLE towing service. I use the AMA's "motow" service for both the cars and the bikes. How does it work? Very well, since I got it for my bikes they have never broken down!!! On the other hand I had my car towed twice. Go figure.

Monte :-D

Allen wrenches to get the seat off and access the battery. You might also bring a jump cable with clips on one end and a lighter adapter on the other. I've turned the key too far and walked away from the bike leaving the lights on... on more than one ocassion. I'd like to meet the rocket scientist who designed the ignition key assembly....

This is a 98 we are talking about, they made 'em with proper locking seats back in those days. The seat bolts came later to save a few pennies.

A cell phone to call the old lady to tell her to bring the truck and trailer.

What the hell has happened to us ????

Biker = free spirit = bad ass !!!!!

All we seem to talk about now is what cleaning materials to use and what if it starts to rain !!!

All you need for a 150/200 mile trip is a bicycle or a skateboard for god's sake !!!!!

didnt mean to get your panties in a knot.

I kept reading posts about some guy whose bike breaks down, and the writer happens to have his tools with him and gets the bike running again. I figured it might be nice to carry some tools with me. I'd rather fix the bike on the side of the road and keep on riding than have to be towed. :???:
