Howdy.

Just thought I'd let you guys know how it went.

My handlebars were buzzing pretty bad after I switched to generic low bars without bar end weights. I didnt want to put weights in because I wanted to use bar end mirrors.

After asking around and searching the net I decided to go with filling my handlebars with silicone. I made plugs to put in the bars so that I could leave 2 inches free at the ends of the bars for mirrors.

Make sure you take the switch clusters off before you pump the silicone into the bars or the silicone will come out of the hole in the bar and fill your switches. Luckily I remebered to do this!!

The silicone seems work. The bars feel much more "connected" to the bike now and the buzz seems to be gone.

The downside is that it is pretty messy to put the silicone in the bars, and the silicone dries in the ends of the bars making an airtight seal so that the silicone in the middle of the bar is still liquid. Hopefully this wont cause a problem.

Incidentally the bar end mirrors I was going to use were purchased off ebay. There is a reason why real halcyon mirrors are $115 and these knock offs were $30. They have plastic "glass" that is all wavy and distorted and the cheezy mechanism they have to secure them to the bars does not solidly attach to the bars. I didnt ride with them on to see how shaky they were. After I attached them and then sat on the bike to adjust them I realized how crappy they were and took them off then put the original triumph mirrors back on.
In a nutshell; Avoid the $30 bar end mirrors on ebay!

Sorry to hear the mirrors didnt work out for you, I guess you could resell them through ebay and try another brand.

i may put them on ebay, but I don't want to be responsible for the quality of the product. Right now I am trying to see if I can return them to the seller.

I remember a guy telling me many years ago that he used canning wax (parafin) and lead shot to cure bar vibration.

Heat the wax/shot on a hotplate or camp stove and pour into the pipes. A touch of the propane torch makes it removable.

Anybody tried or heard of this?
