Ah, the hazards of life in the Navy! I've owned my TBS since new, and as a sailor for all of that, I've not always had a roof to put over it. I used a cover most of the time, but you can't go and put the cover back on when you're at sea on a submarine. Well, now I've got some pretty heinous blisters and freckles on some of my chrome. The headlight ears and the fender stays are the worst, but the weather got under the lacquer on my aluminum parts and created a vein-like appearance there, too. So, now I have a garage and have outfitted it with some pretty nice stuff. I'm going to beadblast the chrome stuff and powdercoat it black. Hopefully the pitting under the chrome won't be too bad. I think that a more blacked out look would be cool, and maybe the pits can be hidden with a wrinkle finish... Anyone know what metal is under the chrome on those parts? It's not steel, maybe zinc?

yep a zinc aluminum alloy Mazak type material. Not very strong or corrosion resisitant in its bare state but cheap to manufacture I'll wager.
