I replaced my engine recently and after getting the new one on I found I had an oil leak @ the drain plug. I tried to tighten it, replace washer, then teflon tape. still dripped from the drain plug, THEN I found it. just to the side of the drain plug, recessed into a part of the oil pan is a small torx screw. the oil is leaking from there and dripping off the drain plug when it gets there.

My question is what does this small torx screw secure?
I tightened it up and the leak stopped but I don't know what might have been loose on the other end of this screw and it's bugging me to know. :???:

so many have read my first post but no one has an answer?...lol

stumped the experts I guess.

Is everyone that has an oil leak dripping from the drain plug checking that screw now to see if it is the same problem?

Sorry - I did read this and made a mental note to check the underside of my engine when I got home...... and promptly forgot.

I disembowelled my engine to replace the sprag clutch a couple of years back but it didn't ring a bell even when I read your question. But, inside the sump there is an oil collection tray - I think part of its purpose is to ensure that cr*p isn't returned to the oilways. That torx screw helps hold the tray to the sump.

If I can find my fiche, I can tell you the part name, but don't hold your breath. No picture of the sump but other pics of sexy engine internals are below my sig.

thanks for the clue chris. I know I found the fiche on-line somewhere a couple of years ago but can't seem to locate it now.
