I'm proposing to change the rubber knee pads on the tank of my TB for a set of the thicker, more sculpured version used on the Adventurer. The existing set have been on the bike from new, but have always left black marks, particularly noticable on my armoured blue jeans, and now have a very 'flat', almost greyish, look to them in places.

Is there a tried and tested method of removing them (and any residual adhesive) without risking damage to the paintwork?

I de-badged my Audi using a hair dryer and dental floss with NO damage to the paint. Residual glue was wiped off with .....ummm I forgot...citrus stuff maybe. Floss was used to "saw" between the badging-glue and the body. Of course they are attached by thick adhesive tape. Maybe hair drier and slow peel...The former is tried and true- the latter ain't

So, are we talking about the difference between the two pads at the top of this page?

Dental floss followed by lighter fluid (benzine) to remove the excess adhesive.

Wax and Grease remover from the auto suppliers works good on all that gluey stuff. Not very expensive either.

Thanks for the responses. Dental floss - I should never have thought of that.

Jawsh - Yes. I'm going to replace the first with the second.

Aye. Thanks, Tony.

I don't have the pads at all, and was curious about the difference between the two.

Other Motorcycle: Can't afford two!

Actually you can just peel them off with your fingers - do it on a warm day or use the hairdryer trick, grasp the edge and pull slowly. at least that has worked for me YMMV.

Go to Home Depot and get Goo-Gone, great stuff.
Goo-Gone and dental floss works great.
