Hi All, fairly new here but have been reading the pages with interest.
With the help of these pages finally bought 01" Tbird...Love it

First question. What is the safest way to jack up or lift my bird so i can get the rear wheel at least off the ground.
Being that there is no sub frame is it ok to jack straight under the motor?

Cheers.

If you get a motorcycle jack you can place a board (I forget what size) under the headers to take the wieght of the bike off the exhust.

Personally, I don't use the board method but I'm reckless.

Welcome to the fold my friend and enjoy the bird. Its a sweet bike. Play with the search option on this site and be sure to specify this section while searching. You'll find what your looking for with pictures I'm sure.

People have made their own lifts using wood.

I use the factory center stand. It's a bit expensive, but I use it all the time for maintenance and parking and would not be without it.

I use the board 'cause I can imagine the trouble I would have if I broke one of the studs that secures the exhaust pipes to the head, or worse if I broke the threads out of the head.

I have the aftermarket centerstand that Ma's Cycles sells on my Legend and I like it well enough. Or I would if I were two inches taller and could get the leverage to get it up on the centerstand by myself.
Before I got the centerstand, we levered it off the ground using a pit bull balanced on some spare wheels we had in the garage- but I'm not sure I'd recommend that technique...

Here's how I have got both wheels off the ground safely. Welcome aboard and enjoy that T-bird!

Think I've tried every method mentioned here as well as the two in my workshop album (click below my sig): one being a wooden block and the other being a home made platform with a front wheel clamp.

The only two which are bullet proof and easy to use are the centrestand and the front wheel clamp.

I use the centrestand. If I need to get the front wheel off I put it on the centrestand and put a jack under the front of the motor, I use the centre bolt of my home made highway peg mount as a jacking point. Good centrestands on these( if you have one)
I think the best way if you dont have a centrestand is a cheap paddock stand(race stand thingy), they are usually about a third of the price of the genuine centrestand.
