Due to a back injury I would like to change the standard handlebars to ones that woud give a slightly more upright position. Has anyone altered their bars like this, and if so how easy was it? Thanks, Bob

I installed 1" risers on mine. It made enough difference for me and was very easy to do. You may need a more drastic change which may involve more.

I changed the silly high bars on mt T-Bird for the triumph lower lower ones. Don't know if they will fit but they are like new and I have no intention of changing back.

PS Where did you get that silly name from???

Like acejones, I just installed new risers (Gen-Mar) that moved the bars up and back about an inch. It is suprising how much difference an inch can make. You can also change bar height/spread by using other bars and/or dogbones (OEM risers); but will most probably have to put in new hydraulic lines for the front brake/clutch. With the Gen-Mar risers there is enough slack in the lines that it is not necessary. Rumor has it that there is plenty of excess wiring for all the switches stuffed inside the head-lamp; but I don't know for sure.

I ran the GenMar riser for about 2 months. It comes up 1 inch and slightly back due to the angle of the stock riser. I found that the original setup was OK for twisty stuff as long as there were few downhill turns requiring significant braking. Under those conditions, the wrists and forearms get pretty pumped up pretty quickly.

With the 1" riser, the downhill turns were less of an issue, but it turned out that I found myself taking one hand off the bar and rotating slightly back to feel more comfortable for straight line riding. After experimenting, I discovered that what I really needed was to have the bars back another 3/4 inch. So I just sent the GenMar riser back to swap it for their model that comes up AND back. Looking forward to that setup. GenMar was very good about the swap.

That's right Bob!

For me the ones that go up AND back (Part number is X102) were the ticket.

Thanks for that. Would you happen to have any photo's and the address? I've got relatives in the US who might be able to get the stuff for me.

Cheers, Bob

I'd be happy to post a picture or three as soon as the new riser arrives.

I recently changed the bars on my TBS to the "daytona GP touring bars. They moved the bars up about 1.5-2 imches and back about 2 inches. Made a huge difference for me.

I did not have to change any of the cables either.

Also installed a Givi 1/4 fairing that works well in getting most of the wind off the chest.

Cheers,

Gary
