I'm just now getting a chance to fiddle with the speed triple igniter that I bought off ebay. I plugged it into my 2000 Tbird and the bike would turn over, but not start.

All the listing said was that is was from a carbureted 885 speed triple. The part # on it is 1290060 & below that is "T309 STD F1". Does that mean it's from a 95-96 model? It was purchased from the UK, so I guess it could be older. Anyone know what model this would be from?

I think if I can identify the sidestand & neutral switch pins on the igniter, I'll have it figured out. I have a Haynes manual, but it only shows wire colors & none of the diagrams match this ignitor exactly. It would be nice to have a diagram that showed pin #s and positions.

Whe I removed it from it's rubber sleeve, I discovered that it had a "B" scratched into the plastic. I hope that doesn't mean "BAD". Can a dealership test these things? I'd hate to keep spending hours trying to figure this thing out if it isn't any good to begin with.

A dealership can test them on the bike - not sure if the tool will work off a bike. The part number may reveal its original use so long as its not a generic number for all unprogrammed ignitors. You can work out the pinouts from the color codes - the codes should be the same on all bikes of the same era (read harness manufacturer) i.e. a red wire will do the same thing on a Tbird as it does on a Speed3.

T309 STD is the igniter used in 885 powered Sprint, Daytona, and S3. It has the 9700 redline. Since they changed the Speed Triple in 97, it is most likely a 94-96 model igniter. There is also a T309 HP that went in the Daytona Super III - not sure what the difference is, as the red lines should be the same.

I have tried this model, and it works fine on the 1995-98 T-Bird, but I think the igniter was a bit different when the T-Bird came back in 2000? Not sure on that one.

Thanks, good info. My bike is still in the dyno shop (I told them I wasn't in any hurry), so I don't have the benefit of having it here to test. I'm having withdrawals from not being able to tinker with her, so I'm doing research and ordering bits. (flyscreen & gaitors so far....I feel a fender chop and tail light change coming on)

I never thought to check out the downloads section! Thank you. Maybe I can get this thing on before the final dyno pull.
