Before I go an buy one, does anyone here have some good opinions about the 'Igniter' mod? I have off-road Triumph silencers on my Adventurer, but don't think I want to install a jet kit or drilling out my carburetor adjustment screws. I've been told by one person that the Igniter mod is all I really need for a 3 degree advance and better performance (but will require premium gas which I burn anyway).

Thanks, Steve

I have never heard of the igniter mod. I adjusted the screws to two and a half turns out and all is wonderful. I believe the caps over the screws are quite thin so drilling is easy. I never had to as my screws have not got the seal caps. I am not sure which do and which don't.

The modded ignition rotor for a few degrees more advance seems to be a popular upgrade on a whole load of bikes. Everyone who does it seems to think it's a good thing.

But I can't help but wonder why, if more advance is optimal, all these different manufacturers did not get the timing right in the first place.

Its because they want their bikes to be able to run okay on cheap gas with no pre-ignition detonation. If they built in the extra advance, then they'd have to specify 93 octane only and that would mess up marketing. That's my opinion.

I would have thought a more advanced ignition timing would give a longer (cleaner) burn?
