Hi Guys,
Just a quick question for any Legend riders with centre stands (or indeed anyone who might know). Does yours lift the rear tyre off the ground? I'm sure mine used to but put the bike on the stand over the weekend and found both tyres firmly on the ground!! Ground was level and solid so ruled that out. I don't use the centre stand too often so no idea how long its been like this.

BTW got my sexy new bars on now so will post a pic or two as soon as i get my album. They make a huge difference to the riding pleasure. Slightly wider, lower and further forward than stock. Much nicer on the lower back.

Wayne

I don't have a centre stand but I would imagine that it should lift the rear wheel clear.

Is it possible you have the wrong stand? Like maybe a Tbird stand, I would expect that to be a little lower because of the different sized wheels.

I have a center stand on the Legend and it does indeed lift the rear tire off the ground. So it works just like you remember, it seems that the rear end on your bike might be sagging a little, perhaps to much holiday joy this past week?

OOOHHH, THE CHEEK OF SOME PEOPLE!!!

Im not sitting on the bike when its on the stand silly.

Seriously tho... thanks for the info.

I have a feeling it might've got accidentally switched when the bike was in for service on the rear suspention. I will investigate this week.

If anyone knows centerstand heights of the different models that would be a huge help. Gonna be raising the rear soon so an alternative center stand might be on the cards too.

All the best,

Wayne

Wayne,

I didn't imply that it was you that had to much fun, simply the bike. I wouldn't imply that it was ever you (as I sit here suffering from to much beef and other goodies yesterday :-D )

If you have the legend and the center stand isn't lifting the bike then there is something wrong with the bike. The T-bird and adventurer had tall stands because the bike sat higher. And by that I mean the frame was farther off the ground so that the drag link that attaches to the center stand was higher thus a taller stand. If you had a stand from either one of those two then the bike would easily be off the ground.

Hope that helps,

Gary

Is the stand going 'over-centre' too far, i.e. not hitting the stop lugs and thus dropping the rear wheel back on the ground? You mention that the bike had some work on the rear suspension - has the shop re-assembled things correctly?

Have a look here:
http://www.triumphrat.net/downloads/tbirdstand.pdf

Parts 3 and 4 should mount on the frame and act as 'lock stops' for the stand - are these correctly positioned on your bike?

It is also possible that the actuating lever/footfinder has become bent downwards slightly so that the stand is only resting on one 'foot' and the base of the actuating lever (this happened to one of my Honda CBR 1000's a while back and was not particularly obvious - it took a while to figure out why the bike was so unsteady on the centre stand).

I use my centerstand all the time, the rear tire is off the ground.

Are you running stock tire sizes?

Hi guys,

The stand seems to be attached correctly as it sits just off vertical on the lock stops. The bike is stable on the stand. The wheels just rest on the floor enough so the rear wheel cant be rotated, about 2-4cm to low. If I put a piece of wood about 2cm thick under the center stand it lifts fine.
Stock wheels and BT020 tyres so nothing odd there. I'm gonna have a proper look at it after new year when I can get somewhere dry to pull it apart (no garage any more )

Thanks for the help. Might just get the shorter bolt and do away with it completely cos I don't use it too often.

Wayne
