Hi everyone,

I will soon be picking up a 96 Adventurer from a friend of mine who doesn't ride it anymore cause he spends too much time on his Nortons. It has 24,000 miles on it and looks brand new. This is my first bike in 25 years so I have a few questions for all you experts out there.

1. Any amazing reliability stories out there of your triple taking you through many trouble free miles. ( I have read the stories about some of the issues and am a little concerned. I may end up taking a trip a week from LA to Phoenix and do not want to get stuck in the desert).

2. Where can I get accessories like saddlebags and a windshield? Anything aftermarket?

3. Is there a lot of maintenence required especially with items like the chain?

4. Anyone traveled 2 up on weekend trips? What was your experience?

5. ANything else I might need to know about the bike. I hear that Triumphs are very reliable and that this bike is solid on the highway yet great in the curves. Is that true?

Thanks eveyone and hello. All your insight is very helpful.

P.S. what do I have to do to join a RAT club?

Dave

Hi Dave, welcome to the club. Congrats on the bike.

My bike has never let me set (*knock on wood*). If it were me going into the desert, I'd take an extra throttle cable just in case, as well as a cell phone.

For factory accessories, google Hermy's or Great Bay Cycle. For aftermarket screens, check National Cycle and Givi. Search the forum for options.

Chain maintenance isn't bad, just lube it every 500 miles or sooner, or look into a Scottoiler.

I have taken mine on 2-up weekends, and it was pretty good. Though it does get rough for her on the back roads.

Yes, that's true. You will have lots of fun. Just take it easy if it's been 25 years since you last rode.

Follow the "Riders Associatoin" link on the triumph.co.uk web page. There is a place for you to join by using your VIN number. There's also a RAT pack directory.

Thanks for the info. Love the windshields from National Cycle. Any other aftermarket places for passenger backrests or floorboards. Although I will be taking it slow. She wont be on for a while till I get a lot of miles behind me. I appreciate all the info.

I've got 42,000 miles on my Legend and it has never left me stranded.
Rincewind has a point about the throttle cables they do sometimes break. Usually at the carbs. Keep it lubed and you should have no worries.
Congrats on the "new" bike!

Bought my '01 Legend three years ago and now have 45000+ miles on her. Coils are the only potential worry. I have replaced two sets(that's three each) and now I think this new set is good to go. The word is that Gill used to hand wind their coils up until 2004. After that they started machine winding them. Started that in '05. Supposed to make them more uniform and pack more windings in the same space. I have a new toy in that I have just purchased a practically new 2003 Trophy. I'm not riding the Legend as much right now but wouldn't sell it for twice what it is worth. I have already turned down offers. I know this summer I will be back on the Legend. It's my hooligan bike while the Trophy is more refined.

Welcome aboard and enjoy. You'll have years of fun with your Adventurer. You don't have join RAT but membership is free and worth it imo.

I've owned my Adventurer for over a year now and I love the bike. After a 1,200 mile trip to Nelson BC for the Rat Raid, I love it even more. My preference is the Classic look and the Adventurer fills the bill. I run the TOR's on mine so it sounds like a motorcycle to me also. I will buy another Triumph for myself but won't be getting rid of the Adventurer any time soon. On a short trip last spring, I lost the Triumph Badge on the back of my sissy bar. I heard it hit the road doing 60 mph. I thought I'd never find the replacement with parts being hard to get for these things, let alone find a badge for an accessory. Then I remember a site someone on this forum told us about and I found the badge here.

Adventurer Parts

I ordered the Badge and received it in about 2 weeks. I even ordered the Brass rivets that hold it in. This time it won't be coming off since I also used adhesive on the back before riveting it on. I'm very happy now .... I hope you will find the site informative and helpful, I did.
