I am getting ready to re jet my 96 Thunderbird, the exhaust is drilled out. The dealership recommends replacing the intake rubber boots with the unrestricted ones. Any comments

Also was burgundy & cream a rare color?

Not sure if this will work but here is the link to a picture of my 96, I just got in May with 800 miles on it

I don't think it was that rare, my 95 is the burgundy and cream, and at the time I picked mine up in 2001, I saw several pictures of that color.

As for the other recommends for the intake boots, not sure.

try sprint manifold rubbers, you'll find that the hole is larger, these are fitted to my 98 adventurer along with t-bird after market factory race pipes, i'v had these on the bike since the summer of 98, great sound and she rockets off when you twist the throttle.

You are missing the boat. Yes you need unresricted boots and rejetting but go for the offroad silencers. Best upgrade in my opinion. (I have a set of drilled stock cans on a shelf in my garage.)

"Missing the boat" seems a bit harsh.

Personally, I have seen no reason to rejet or overly tweak my bike for performance but I do understand the desire.

If I was going to go as far as rejetting, replacing the inlet rubbers would seem to be a good idea. It's a small and cheap job that could affect choice of jets if you decided to do it later.

If the silencers are working well for you and have good exhaust flow, I wouldn't worry about replacing them with the off-roads. I bought the slashcuts for my Adventurer but that was because the prior owner had drilled the originals incorrectly and there was no reasonable way for me to fix them. Personally I like the looks of the peashooters better than the slashcuts.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Hopefully the dealership is using a dyno to select the jets and not just guessing.

My opinion; for what it's worth.

My bike came new with factory off-road pipes. I added a jet kit, k&n and was pleased with the upgrade, made it crank better and gave it a bit more power. Not a lot more power, just barely noticable.

Then I added new carb rubbers from john wilcox. Woohoo, made a big difference. I can now do full wheelie stands if I choose. Before, I could barely get the front end up.

I belive the rubbers made use of the potential created by the other mods. But it makes riding a lot more fun now. I would definitely go for the upgrade.
