Hi everyone. I am a bit of an interloper here as I have 955i Tiger.

A mate of mine has a Thunderbird Sport and recently had what could have been a disaster. Apparently a spanner out of the toolkit worked its way loose and slid down somehow and fell into the chain. Sods law said that it then wrapped itself lengthways between the chain and the sprocket. He is now the proud owner of a C shaped spanner and a knackered sprocket cover. The chain adjuster broke and the back wheel locked solid when this happened despite the fact they were two up at the time (combined weight approx 26 stone). They got recovered eventually (motorcyclist are obviously low priority here).

Since then he has replaced the sprocket cover and repaired the chain adjuster. He has retained the existing chain & sprocket (methinks not such a good idea) and departed on a two week tour to Portugal (also two up). There doesn't seem to be any other problems but I suppose time will tell.

If he returns intact it must say a lot for the strength of Triumph engines.

I hope to see him soon

There is a way round further spanner grief on your mate's TBS. I had the 'secondary airbox' off recently to perform surgery on the rear shock and thought 'right, that's it' and lopped the top off it. Voila! tool box. I got carried away and went a bit further than I should and also cut an extra hole on the right side of the airbox to match the one already there on the left, got a big flat spot at 4000 to 5000 for my troubles. I should have known better, I've read enough posts from others that did exactly the same thing, don't know why I thought MY airbox was different. Anyway, taped over the extra hole and everything normal again except I now have to put some mesh or something over the airbox inlet to prevent mice or small birds making a home in it before I get back from work in two weeks.
