I've tried for a few months now to get used to manually cancelling the indicators. Still I leave them on a few blocks until I realize they still blink or when a left turning car threatens to turn out in front of me (assuming I must be turning). I've now resorted to hand signals avoiding the bikes turn units altogether.

Has anyone ever tried retrofitting a self cancelling system for the T-Bird/Legend bikes?

Perhaps it's time for you to retrain yourself?

Instead of cancelling the turn signals after a turn, try conditioning yourself to cancel when you upshift.

That will change your pattern and may be easier to adapt to.

It worked for me! :-D

You might want to consider one of these..
Signal minder

Another option is to fit an audible warning, a little 12 volt squeaker from an old computer case will do. These things can get irritating though.

All it takes is one close call and I'll bet you will learn quickly.
My Legend and Hondas do not have s/c signals (or what some manuals refer to as "lane departure indicators") so I guess I learned from the start to remember to cancel manually (not that I've never left mine on once or twice!)
