I've read about a variety of problems with the tachometer on the Tbird. I have delt with an erratic and eventually non-functioning tachometer. I also do not like the foggy glass that I cannot easily get to and clean. Has anyone found a better quality speedo and tach that fits in the same mount? What do people think about Dakota Digital instuments? Are the digital instruments any more reliable?

Somebody here has posted about opening and repairing tachos (with pictures) that might be helpful to you.
Can anybody link it?
I've got a Dakota Digital speedo on Mutato, but that wasn't a reliability issue -- my speedo was smashed beyond repair and the Dakota was about 1/2 the price of a Triumph replacement. I still haven't had the opportunity to fully check it out so I'm not going to give a blanket recommendation for it.
The Dakota stuff is designed for Harleys, so don't expect a 'miracle fit.' It took some mechanical diddling, cutting a bezel ring out of aluminum to make it fit the existing location, some rewiring in the harness and mounting a sensor on the swing arm to read the slots in the brake rotor to get it working.
Personally, I don't care for digital tachos because they're generally not 'real time' like an analog tach. I find them to be either half a second late or changing so fast that they're unreadable.
Like anything else... pros and cons....
