Air bags for bikes ?????????? who in the world would want that?????? Certain kinds of accidents maybe???? Dont know bout anyone else but........I dont want this on any bike I ride ! Seen this on Yahoo's home page.

They would be helpful in a front end accident, like t-boning a left turner or someone pulling out that "didn't see you" which are fairly common.

Thats what I meant when I said certain types of accidents.....But how many times have you run over something large n hard @ night and you bike hit it hard (very hard) I for one have .....and would like to see where I am going I wouldnt want the air bag deploying on me. But to each his own I guess.

You can read more about it here at Honda's page. It uses four crash sensors on the front fork to monitor acceleration changes, and a central ECU to determine if the airbag is needed.

False triggerings would be awful, of course, and put Honda wide open for lawsuits. I'd guess they've spent a lot of time and money to avoid that scenario.

Besides Honda, there are also a number of vendors, such as Hit-Air, that have developed airbag jackets and vests.
