When I got my adventurer I recieve the owners manual the Previous owner had received when he got the bike. It is a "thunderbird" manual.

While flipping through this for old time sake I noticed the fuel recommentation was 89 octane.

Gas prices have me on 87 and I thought I would bring it up here to see what you folks use.

part 2:

Does anyone have a owners manual that actually says "adventurer" on it? Just curious.

My manual has all the Tbird variants on the opening page but maybe thats a UK thing.

I put the expensive unleaded (Esso Supreme - 97 octane I think) in at the pumps in the vain and probably false hope that it will stop my carbs from varnishing up! My manual recommends '95RON' .

The highest I can find, usually 93 or 94
It's not that much more per fill-up when you consider the small tank. :-D

After Katrina the only gas I could find was 87 octane. I had been using the high price spread before but with the only game in town I started using 87. I have seen very little differerence since the switch. I don't let a tank sit with fuel long enough to worry about build up. I have been using 87 ever since.

Since the introduction of Ethanol addatives in the gas here in Hawaii, I find that my TBS runs better on the higher octane fuels.
Previously I had always used the midrange fuel.

89 octane. 87 makes her idle a little funny, and get some off-idle hesitation. It clears up on 89.

Not to trot out the cliched discussion, but don't assume higher than recommended is better. Higher octanes burn more slowly. If it's too slow, that's bad too.

In the US, octane ratings in fuels can vary between 86-87 AKI (91-92 RON) for regular, through 89-90 (94-95) for mid-grade (European Premium), up to 90-94 (RON 95-99) for premium unleaded or E10 (Super in Europe)

From Wikipedia, thought it would be helpful.

My Tbird chokes on 87, I always use 91. Its worth every penny.

I had been using 93 oct in my T'bird but switched to 89 one day. That was 6 months ago and I am still using 89 with no problems. But always buy gas from stations that sell alot of fuel and it will be fresh and not stale. Bull.

I'm guessing you US folks have models adapted to lower octane, so this thread may be a bit ambiguous... I use 98 RON but have run on 95 with no ill effects.

Note: the octane rating system used in the US is different than the rest of the world...

What we buy as 89 is roughly equivalent to 95 RON
