Friend of mine bought a 99 legend and wants to fit a pair of side bags. Looking at the Leatherlyke contemporary design (no studs just plain) or the Givi 21 liter in flat black.

Since no brackets are available for the Legend I was wondering if anyone else had used a mount from another bike and made it work. I have the skills to modify and weld if needed.

Thanks for the help.

hepco becker makes racks that accomodate hard bags for the classic triples.

Hard to find on this side of the pond. The only place I've seen them is Sprint Manufacturing in the UK.

Sprint

Look under luggage systems.

Hi,
I live in France and I have very nice hard bag steel chorme side carriers on my Thunderbird. The maker is "Five Stars", Germany.
I have been very lucky to find them on Ebay.
They are GIVI compatible

To help you, the german word for "side carrier" is "seitenträger".

You can mount them independantly from a Hepco & Becker top case carrier.

Search and search on the Web. Good luck!

I second the Hepco Beckers! I love mine. Here's what the sidebags look like on a Legend.

(Sigh. Or not. I had to go back in and do a link because I can't sem to get the trick to images on this site.)

Right now, since I'm commuting, I use just the top bag which I didn't have at the time of those photos. It rocks.

Thanks for the responses. Might be leaning to the Hepco Beckers since it doesn't seem to require too much fab work i.e. made for the Legend.

Tried to sort through the Twisted Throttle site to find the right rack part numbers and bags however seemed a bit confusing.

I'd love to see how that looks, Stephanie.

And re:twisted throttle - they don't show a rack for the Tbird/Legends.

However the main H&B website lists the following for the Legend TT's and the 1999+ Tbirds:

Seitenträger inkl. Gepäckbrücke chrom 650764.0002
Gepäckbrücke chrom 650764.0102

My Deutsch is a little rusty, maybe someone can help. I think the first is for side case and rear case racks, while the second number is for rear case rack only. Is that right?

So perhaps, as an importer, Twisted Throttle could check these part numbers. Let us know how it works out.

I bet there is someone at Hepcko&Becker that speaks good English so a phone call would also likely answer the question for sure.

I've been shopping for luggage. I didn't end up buying any yet (mostly due to me Legend being in the shop for over three weeks with some really expensive sounding noise in the top-end). However, in my search some other riders mentioned Ghost Brackets and they look really good for mounting any type of bag.

I almost sprang for an old set of Craven bags that a guy on Ebay was selling, with the intention of maybe using Ghost Brackets to mount them. Alas, now I just wait for the breaker to get done.

Off topic question, but if you owned a $3000 motorcycle that needed a $1000+ repair, what would you do? ...
