at about 2900-3200+or- RPM the bike looses power and feels like the clutch is slipping (without the engine really racing. I've gone back about 22 pages in the forum (search is worthless-+ I learn a LOT) and found ONE mention of lower RPM power loss on accel in a pilot discussion on a carb jet site link (http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages...900Kiehin.html)
I thought that the vibes were just a TBS thing- but is it a fixable issue? At low cruise speed and at mild acceleration it is really annoying.

is this where the 40pilot and 100 main comes in...or should come in?? other than at that RPM everything seems great-

Other Motorcycle: Can't afford two!
Extra Motorcycle: Three would be insane
its to do with the harmonic balancer and the nature of the triple. In reality the right way to ride these bikes is to keep the revs higer than you would a twin - up in the 3500 area and above.

AHA- OK Thanks! I can do that! Next is TOR pipes- I'll be posting!

By the way Mick- since you are an Admin- nothing personal on the "search" issue- I'm really getting a good course in my new bike by going back through the entire forum- as long as I go back faster than the forum goes foward- I'll eventually be in the present!

I never notice the flat spot because I accelerate right through it.

I used to hit that flat spot and I would get freaked out by it. Then I found I wasn't alone. But the biggest thing that changed it was when I drilled out the baffles in my stock (cone) silencers.

As if the more air it could blow out without reisitance the smother I was climbing the power band. I made not changes to jetting although the result was the decelerating "popping" which I personally enjoy listening too.

This site rocks dude...good luck with your ride. It's all going according to plan.

I agree!! I would never have been able to do a search on this because I wouldn't have known the correct "lingo" to describe it. I have experienced that "flat spot" but assumed it was something I was doing wrong as a newbie rider. It really helps to learn from the pros! Someday when I have extra time, I''l follow Rick's lead and work ny way thorugh the archives!

I accellerate right through that RPM range and never ride in that range, never. I like to keep in the best accelerating gear fofr thhe conditions, never under 4k.

Cheers,

Martin

Great point Martain.

This bike was designed to be ridden higher then 3k RPM. It feels best at the 5k range but my ear took getting use to that when I decided to drill my baffles out.

Currently I'm thinking about putting some old school shoty mufflers on to make it blast. I want to see how it sounds.

A three into one exhaust system fixes it. :-D

The flat spot at 3000 RPM was one of the first things I asked about when I got my T-Bird. Responses included:

a) it lessens with time/engine break in

b) after a while you won't notice it

I can't say for sure if 'a' is true, but I can say that 'b' is definitely true. I don’t notice it at all now. In fact, just the other day I realized that I no longer notice it. In part I think that the bike has “trained” me to accelerate right through it.
