For those considering binning the airbox :

I have been running 120# main jets in Keihin CVK carbs and freeflow air filters (with standard exhausts) for a year now and done about 1000 miles.

I live at sea level and do mixed motorway and A road riding.

The point is that the NGK Iriduim plug cores are just the right "buff" colour indicating the mixture is just right and im getting and extra 20 miles per tank before going on to reserve.

The bike runs really well with loads more power than standard. I am happy ive got this setup right for my environment !

By "free flow air filters," do you mean pods? If so, which ones are you using?

I do want to dump the stock air box!

Also did you change your carbs? I thought Mikuni's were on the 97's?

Yes - you are both correct:

The carbs were originally Mikuni's but were changed to Keihin CVK's off a 2001 TB (with added copper washers under each needle) - eBay special I left the bike standing when I worked abroad and the Mikunis corroded badly ! The Keihins are more economical.

The "free flow filters" are pods, I have got US made S&B maxi flow 2.25x3.5x2x4 125-RC-T conical
