I bought a 99' legend this year and it ran great all this time but dont have the service records from the previous owner.

I started it up 2 nights ago and it wasn't running right. After warmed up i ran it around the block and had to keep the choke on a bit........then took the choke off completely and it ran like *****-bogging down alot. I made it home and it stalled. I had put fresh gas in it 3 weeks ago (havent been running it much as i'd like)and ran it 66 miles then it sat for 2 weeks.
Someone suggested the jets may be clogged. It also was popping and backfiring alot after i attempted to run it again.
I put fresh gas in last night with some Gumout treatment and ran for a few miles. It seemed better but still alot of popping and backfiring(which is very loud)!
The throttle also seemed odd. I would shift in higher gear and it wanted to take off on me and when i backed off the throttle it didn't slow up...........

any ideas? Whats the best repair manual to buy?
I want to try simple solutions myself before investing in hours of diagnosis by the dealer.

Thanks!

The symptom of not running properly without the choke on points to pilot jets restricted from varnish buildup. That's also indicated by your admission that you haven't been running it much lately.

Remove the carbs, remove the jets, hold them up to the light and take a close look at them with a magnifier.

I purchased mine at The Motor Bookstore who also happens to be a triumphrat.net supporter.

Fast delivery and better price than amazon.

I would drain the tank and look for sediment before I went to far. Then refuel with some fresh gas.

Best of luck.

It might be worth checking the coils. That is a freq source of problems.
