Howdy all...
I've had my 2000 Legend for about a month now and absolutely love it. The only drawback I see is the chain maintenance... am I oiling it enough, am I oiling it too much, do I need to adjust the chain, etc. The chain is worrying me sick, so I'm considering the Scottoiler, and I'm sure that everyone is pretty familiar with it, but has anyone installed it on a Legend, T-Bird or similar Triple and is there anyone willing to dispense advice???
I'm somewhat mechanical... okay, maybe that's an overstatement, but I usually install my own accessories and such with no problems. The thing that concerns me about the Scottoiler is the necessary vacuum connection. I don't know much about vacuum lines or things like that, and was wondering about how difficult it might be...

Long post, but quick summary: Anyone with a Legend and a Scottoiler that is willing to advise me?

Post to the group, or e-mail me...

Thanks,

No big deal installing the scotoiler. On my T-bird I fixed
it to the sub-frame and run the vacuum pipe to the middle carb where the take off spigot for the vacuum gauges go.Hope that helps

I have fitted two now, and the hardest part is figuring out where to put the reservoir. The vacuum connection is really not a problem on a Legend- the connector just replaces a rubber cap on one of the carb vacuum spigots, like Sco said.

I installed one a few months back; works great. I did a brief review in the Review Section. Also have a photo or two in the members photo albums on page 10.

I'd put one on my other road bike if it didn't have shaft drive.

Here's a dumb question . . . how often should you oil your chain? What oil do you use?

Thanks.

i got my father a scottoiler two years ago for what is now amy's bike (i bought it off of him). the only problem that i know of was a zip tie broke in that time.

there is an alternitive to the scottoiler, though i've never used it. it is called loobman.

Just wanted to let those interested know that I did indeed buy and install the Scottoiler on my '00 Legend, and I love it. No more spray lube for me!

I ordered it and had it in my hands in two days. Upon receipt of the package, I have to admit I was a bit overwhelmed at the contents of the box and the number of parts included. As it turns out, Scottoiler sends many different options for installation and mounting and such, and once you figure out what you need for your bike, it really isn't that bad. There are many parts left over after the installation that you simply do not use, but it's good that Scottoiler includes the different mounting options in the box so that you won't have to order additional kits...

Total installation time is about 90 minutes to 2 hours, and that includes the reading and re-reading of the instructions several times.

The thing works great and I am very pleased with my purchase. Thanks to those who gave me advice on the Scottoiler. I highly recommend it to others!

Scotoiler on 2000TBS: Vacuum connection is the easy part! There are little rubber caps on top of each carb. That is where I put my connection. No cutting or disassembly required. Put the rubber cap in my tool box. I mounted my resv. behind my battery box. I drilled two holes and secured it with the plastic mounting sleeve, glue (supplied) and a long nylon tie wrap (supplied.)
I do need to remove the right side cover and rear brake resv. to fill it but it still takes less time to do that than it is did to oil with a can of chain lube.My oil lasts about 900 kilometers too. I would recommend setting your oiler to ONE drop per minute and increase/decrease from there. SO far I have adjusted my chain twice in 6000 kilometers of riding. Oil will collect on your front sproket cover and drip down recreating a Meriden Triumph trait: LEAKING OIL!
I recently ran out of Scotoiller brand oil and switched to synthetic gear oil in my oilller. No problems! Even kind of smells like an old bike now too!
