Take a real close look at your plug wire and the low voltage connections to the ignition coil.

If the connectors are damaged or corroded they'll damage and corrode the connections on the new coil.

If you crimped the high voltage connector to the stock plug wire, check that crimp carefully. Arcing there may not be audible or visible but will cause oxidation and a bad connection.

thanks Jim

I did not use the connector that came with the coil.
I will try that.
the new coil that I sent back had a reading of 2.02 ohms
this coil that I have now, on the bike, will fire about every 3 to 5 sec.
the header get warm but not hot.

I guess the next step is to pull the fuel tank to expose the coils and measure the voltage across the inputs to the coil.

With the ignition on and the engine NOT running you should measure the same voltage across each at the coil terminals.

Check that, take two aspirin and call me in the morning... :-D
