Just pulled my fuel filter for the first time. The filters are clean, but the main one has a small hole in the top center of it. It looks like it was burned into the plastic with a soldering iron. I can't imagine that it supposed to be there, but I thought I'd ask. The filter is otherwise clean. There were a fair amount of paint chips in the bottom of the tank though.

I've heard of that before but don't know if it's a factory defect or someone's idea of a 'go faster' mod.

I don't know if my bike has that hole, but the spare fuel tap I bought from Triumph doesn't so I'd suspect it's not supposed to be there.

boy am i glad i'm not the only one that had that. does it look something like this...

first, i got a soldering iron and melted it back together then bought some seal-all and sealed it over as best i could. short of buying a new one aftermarket or not you're looking at at least 80$.

while you're in there make sure the gaskets are clean of debris. for example:

i gave you a nice big picture so you can see the little flakes of rust and paint.

which reminds me, since you have the tank off make sure it is dry and clear of fumes then proceed to sand, scratch or whatever the inside of the neck at the filler cap. this is where all the lovely paint chips originate from.

good luck :hammer:

For removing the loose paint in the filler neck, use ductape.

Press the tape into the grooves with a popsicle stick or similar, and then just peel the tape off.

Flakies gone.... :-D

That filter is part of the petcock assembly. No wonder some have opted for aftermarket petcock assemblies.

I believe the hole is there to stop airlocks - I agree it does seem a little counter productive though :-D

Mine had it until I swapped for a ZRX petcock.
