I just pulled the rack on my T-Bird to clean up the jets. After reassembly, the bike runs fairly good but back fires on deceleration. There is also a little hesitation when revved up. Does this sound like the carbs need to be balanced? I did not touch the adjustment screws, just cleaned the jets, but have a feeling that when it was adjusted before (dealer 2 seasons ago) it may have been adjusted with dirty carbs. Other than that I may need to pull them again and check the diaphragms.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Glen

It is a good idea to balance the carbs if they have been removed. A little knock can make a difference.

It would be worth checking also that all the rubber boots are properly seated as it is easy to get wrong when refitting the carbs and airbox.

Re- check the fit of the rubber boots between carbs and intake ports. Air leak = lean, and can make for hesitation and backfiring. let her idle, and spray WD 40 on the intake rubbers. if idle changes, you got a leak. look for cracks in those 10 year old hoses.
