So the replacement starter came in and I hooked it up. While I didnt bolt it in place I did connect it to the Solenoid. Still only get clicking. Am I to think that its the solenoid that's bad? Of course its possible that I got a bum starter but the fact that both did the same thing makes me think that the starter isn't the issue.

To sum up...my doohicky don't do nothing.

I take it that you did get a good ground to its body when you did the test.

You can easily check the starter/ solenoid issue. Just short the two bolt terminals of the solenoid - if the starter cranks that way the solenoid is suspect.

Mick is dead on there.

If there's not a good ground to the motor's body, there's no path for current flow through the motor and no torque can be produced.

oh fer fuk sake. borrowed a solenoid from a friend, clickety click. then i snugged the starter in place and it cranked. so for ****s and giggles i put all my old components back and and it cranked. LOL at least the starter only cost me $20
