I have read numerous comments about rough running engines. Here is my situation!

1995 Tbird, 50k miles. It's been a great bike, and very reliable. Now I have a problem, where the engine stutters (sometimes stalls) when starting from a stop, low RPMs. The problem comes and goes (even on the same short ride). The engine starts easy. Revving it in neutral seems ok. And once it gets moving and the RPMs are above 2500, no problems at. All the power seems to be there once I get moving and need to accelerate. It is not clear to me that the problem is related to cold versus hot.

I followed some suggestions and looked at the coils and spark plug wires with a timing light and ohm meter, and did not detect a problem. I have the original coils on this bike.

I put an inline fuel filter on my bike years ago, so I do not suspect dirt in the carbs.

I did back out the idle mixture screws on my Mikuni's a month ago to get rid of decel popping. That procedure went well, with no problems. Engine ran great and decel popping almost eliminated. Note I was surprised that the screws were all the way in from the factory for all three carbs. I backed them out 2.5 turns. The bike was running fine for a month, and now this recent problem arises. So I do not think the problem is related to the mixture screws.

Any advice!

Sounds to me like fuel starvation issue. Like maybe the petcock filter is dirty.

When you look into the tank from the gas cap, how does the inside look? Mine has a white coating and I have read on the older birds that coating can come unstuck over time. Might want to pull the petcock and see if the fuel is not getting through before it even reaches your fuel line filter.

since you've already checked the coils. try the petcock like Tre said ,also check the "duckbill" filter in carb fuel rail fitting. Dazco in the twin forum had a fuel starvation problem after fitting an in-line fuel filter.
Wait a second? 50k,Have you ever checked or replaced the pick-up coil? Its one of those" when not if it wears out" parts. I priced one out this year about 60 usd. it turned out I didn't need it.

Yeah I'm sitting on a pick up coil too. Ordered it, got it, wasn't the problem, kept it...cause I hear everyone replaces em.

Well the bike runs fine now, and I am not exactly sure why! Last night I pulled the spark plug wires and plugs, they looked ok. Ohm meter said they were ok. Put them back and made sure the connections were good. Then I cleaned out the carb bowl vents. Mine are exposed and always open, since I removed the solenoid actuated vent tubes a long time ago.

Took it a out for a ride after I was done and all is fine. Rode it to work this morning and still all is fine.

I have checked my tank for chipped paint inside. No problem there.
