Hi folks!
Bought my first Triumph 4 weeks ago- '04 Tbird Sport with 41 miles on it (now up to 180mi). I'm completely in love with it, but have determined that the engine definitely needs some help breathing. So, right now i have the following sitting in my garage, ready to fit on- preferably all at the same time- once I get the motor broken in a bit:

Epco stainless steel muffs,
FactoryPro jet kit,
K&N air filter element,
A drill so I can shed the dumb air induction "muffler" and make the same size hole going in on the other (right) side of the actual airbox,
All else stock.

I have been reading many threads on this site and others that would suggest this is not at all a unique setup, and i'm guessing at least ten others on this (my favorite as yet by far) forum are flossing it right now.
So I am wondering if anyone that has experience with this configuration might be willing to tell me what size jets/needle postion/etc. they predict I am going to need- just so I have a sort of "template" to get me started? Of course I'm still ready to spend many hours on the inevitable clusterbugger of a jetting adventure, but this may save me a few minutes of grief anyway. Oh, and most of my riding will be between 800' and 2000' above sea level, if that interests anyone. Any even remotely related advice would be greatly appreciated. Good meeting all of you, hope to be in here a lot.

Hi, and welcome to the site.

You should start by reading the classics tuning guide, from the downloads section. It will give you a good idea of what size jets you need.

If you don't mess with the airbox and filter box, #100 main jets, #40 pilots and a mixture adjustment will do the job nicely.

Removing the air box and modifying the filter box will require major rejetting and the results are somewhat unpredictable since there's no consistancy in how folks mod the filter box.

If you're only adding a single 1-3/4" hole to the right filter box horn and removing the air box that should put your main jets about #110 or so.

Oh my goodness - Jim thank you so much for putting up that tuning article. That was the most interesting thing i have read in weeks! I'd endorse you for demigod status on this site if that hasn't happened already. I think that based on your article I am going to go down the 4-hole route first and see where that takes me, especially since you already have a template laid out in your article for it that matches my riding conditions exactly. Now I've got something to start with and can do small mods to the jetting from there. This is what I really needed because I am going to be tuning it by feel (just change one thing then take it out for a ride) since I don't actually have ready access to a dyno, or even not-so-ready access to one for that matter.
Thanks again

Well... my advice is to wear mittens if you're serious about rejetting.

It makes it harder to tear your hair out in frustration.
