Hi all,

I'm wondering if a K&N is a direct replacement or should re-jetting be done after it's installed? I'm already burning a bit lean, I think (noted by the bluing about 1/3 of the way down the header) so I'm not sure if just swapping the filter will lean it out even more.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Cheers!

The blueing is normal, you shouldnt need to rejet unless you do other mods.

No rejet should be required. I put in a K&N replacement panel and swapped to Epco Stainless free flow slip ons and just adjusted the carb screws to 2.5 turns out.
All runs GREAT

Not to thread jack or anything, but I think it is close to the topic at hand. The K&N Filter and Jet system on Great Bay, is it worth the 75 bucks?

The filter alone retails for about $55 Cdn or $45 US on ebay, no jets. I hit the local Triumph dealer yesterday to check if they could get the K&N with jets, to which they said no, they were separate and didn't list jets for my year. Needless to say, other manufacturer’s jets run about $100. So in the end, I’d say the pair is worth the $75, IF you need both.

Cheers!

I just purchased a KN and jets.

KN was $90,
.42 pilots and 118 mains were $75.

Thats a total of $165 Aus. = $125 US.

So [depending on the jet sizes etc] its a good deal.

Re-jetting isn't mandatory, but I'd suggest #100 main jets and #40 pilot jets with the K&N since the stock mixture is lean and the K&N will make it slightly leaner.

Consensus is 2-1/2 turns out on the mixture screws and that will stop most of the bluing.

Thanks Jimmy,

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

As a side bar to this post, do they make (and would it help) an AI removal kit for T Birds?

As far as I know the only bikes with the 'smog' package are the California models.

My 2000 Adventurer (Mutato) is actually a Canadian model and had no ancillary smog equipment installed.

Very good then,

There are obviously 2 schools of thought about the bluing (which is what I'm trying minimize). I don't mind some at the top, but it's slowly creeping down the header (heading toward the lower bend). When I have the K&N installed, I'll have it re-jetted in an attempt to stay off the "creeping blue".
The previous owner had the bike stored for a number of years and as such, had some work done prior to it's sale. I think they adjusted the mixture and possibly leaned it out even more than stock.

Thanks to all for the assistance!
