If I plug in the right hand switch gear from a UK bike to my USA bike, will the headlight switch work?

I'm hoping that the wiring harness is the same and that the USA switch gear has a jumper in it to keep the lights on.

Taking this a bit further, I could possibly reproduce the jumper to keep the lights on and reuse the switch for something else. I would just have to tie some wires together inside the headlight shell as apposed to having the jumper in the switch gear. Then remove the three or four pins that lead to the headlight switch and reuse them as needed.

Thoughts?

If I'm going to spend 300+ on those ***** slick looking MotoLights, I might as well go all the way.

I have been told and I cannot confirm the accuacy of this, that there is actually a switch inside the US models. Just the actuator has been removed and a blanking plate covering the hole.

Can anyone confirm this?

Neither of my bikes have the switch inside the right control. The connector that is on the bundle of wires coming from the RIGHT(oops) control (This connector is located inside the hedlight shell) has a jumper wire, that corresponds to the correct colors for the headlight switch noted in the wiring diagram for the early GB TBirds. So it seems that the switch assembly that comes with a bundle of wires will need to be changed. If the exchange rate were more favorable, I'd be looking for one of those switch assemblies.

That is good to know because it is the case with the RH units that are fitted to the newer model Urals.

One bloke had pulled the throttle off his Ural for whatever reason and when he had reinstalled it, the headlights would not work.

After pulling it apart again he found that the switch had moved to the off position and all he had to do was move it back and reinstall and all was well.
