Now that all my tweaking of the bike is done (hear Mick sigh from relief) I feel totally depressed and I feel the need for a new challenge....so I thought learning how to power wheelie my bike sounded like a grand idea!

Anyone here power wheelie their classic triple on a regular basis??

Wheelies are ofcourse completely idiotic but then again...fun! :-D

Started fiddling around with it the other day...and it shouldn't be a problem...the engine
power is certainly there.

Mine will only wheelie with the mrs on the back or a heavy load,eg touring load. Did one by accident a while back I thought to meself awesome.
I have a mate who can wheelie any bike, he has even wheelied a Gold Wing. It can be done.
My only advice is to keep your left toe under the shifter ready to change up a gear, in case you pass the point of balance. Or alternately cover the rear brake. The latter will bring it down pretty hard.

I only ever managed it once ( and that was an accident) with the Mrs on the back. I don't think these bikes make enough power (or maybe they are too heavy) for power wheelies.

reminds me of a bike night last summer...all the young dudes were wheelie-ing their sport bikes and along comes Grizzly Adams and his ol' lady poppin' a long one all the way through the parking lot on his Road King. Funny moment.

Fantastic Grizzly Adams story (for our European members, not sure if the translates, it was an old TV show with a guy with a long grey beard... OK, there was a bit more to it than that I guess, but that's the relevant bit I think).

Spooner, if you haven't done a lot of wheelies in the past, but you want to learn (you are right, it's fun even though idiotic), you may want to learn the technique first on a bike that you haven't put so much effort and money into building...

I'd go buy yourself a little 250cc two-stroke dirtbike that's about 20 yrs old and only worth a couple hundred bucks, and practice wheelies in a field somewhere.

That way when you launch it into a tree or a fence (which you will - I put a big dent in my mom's pear tree one time...) it will be a lot less painful, literally and financially.

Have fun

Ray

Ha, I can't remember the name of the mule.

Actually, when I was a kid growing up in northern BC, I thought my dad WAS Grizzly Adams...

That was one of the 4 programs we could actually get on our TV. The other three were

CBC news
Hockey Night in Canada (of course) and,
The Beachcombers.

I wanna see some pics or vids if you get the hang of it, Spooner.

I'm not able to do a power wheelie. I've tried, but only managed to get the handlebars loose for a fraction of a second. It's certainly not like some bikes which wheelie at the flick of the wrist. I'd guess you might have better luck if you changed the sprockets for different gearing.

:hihi: that is a great Grizzly Adams story! :hihi: I'd love to see that on a Roadking! I have seen it done on a Goldwing before too, and many guys wheelie the Rockets! Talk about a flick of the wrist wheelie machine, get ya a S3 and try to keep the front wheel down! :lgh: For real though, the dirtbike is a great idea, or take a wheelie school, I've heard great things about On One Wheel! Until then, here's a ol' pic of the CB...
