Couple of kids pulled up on Harleys beside me at a stoplight. Not sure what models, defininately not sportsters or vrods. I open it up to about 3000 rpm and pull through 2 shifts, just like normal. The Harley boys thought I was racing. One of the boys kicked it in hard and roared right past me, up to about 70 or so. I was itching to open the Bird up and take them, but not in this crowded business area in Edmond, Oklahoma. Sigh... :brk:

Oh well, better to be safe than dead tboned with a yuppiemobile. :jest: :-)

Good choice, nothing to prove at this point. you know you can take them, that is probably enough.

Next time I would suggest following them to the next stop light and directing them to the less crowed street and explaining your reason.

I have both and although the Sporty is pretty quick, the T-Bird will smoke it.

I opened her up later on the turnpike to let out my aggression. Popped a buck into the toll taker machine, slapped on my glove, pulled down the visor and just let her rip. Over 100 mph in 4th, and just barely onto the turnpike (probably about a quarter mile). Man did it feel good. :upthumb: :-g

Sounds great except for the buck in the toll booth. We need that money just to buy gas.

"Smoke it" sounds a bit exaggerated. I race with my brother and his Sporty 1200R quite a bit...I'm faster but I'm in no way smoking him..those things can move pretty good with the right pipes and jetting.

Sorry Spoonman,
I'm with jp99tbirdnm on this one. If you "put the spurs to it" a Hinckley Classic will smoke a Sporty no matter how modded up it is. :hammer:

As I stated I have both. So this is a qualified comparison. 1st and 2nd side by side, 3rd the T-Bird starts pulling away, 4th the T-Bird leaves the Sporty in a hurry. Two gears left and the Sporty has no chance. I have been on both in this test. My brother riding one and myself on the other. Same result every time. My brother is a very good and experienced rider. He owns an 04 1200 custom like mine. The same results when he is riding his. I will eventualy stage the H-D, and I'm going 955 the Bird with Daytona cams, pistons, liners, igniter and valve springs per Jim Bush. His article The Need for Speed in the Technical Section.

This is my experience of the two. Agree or disagree, it is what it is.
