All, do you know of any differences between the various stock headers?
I have a late TBS (3 into 2, one on each side), but the D&D 3 into 3's. I want to get a quieter system, but the stock pipes didn't come with the bike.

Thanks!

the headers are different on almost all the models.

Early tbs 3 into 2 (with balance pipe) single sided

late tbs 3 into 2 (with balance) double sided

Tbird + adventurer 2into 1 plus 1 into 1 double sided (no balance)

Legend is similar to the tbird but has a different turn up on the end of the header pipes.

All models use different rear subframes (other than late TBird and Legend which are the same) and have different rear hanger locations for the mufflers.

Hope this helps!

P.S. I have a set of TBird headers for sale (stock TBird not TBS) if you are interested.

Hey Mick, how hard would it be to fit the stock TB headers on a TBS with the intent on using the TB offroad pipes? I sometimes have crazy dreams of fitting some Hepco and Becker hard bags on my TBS with the TB peashooters.

The hangers aren't an issue (easy to extend). But it looks like I either need a TBS header. Though I would like something that is a little lower to lower my wifes pegs a bit (long legs). I wonder if Legend header angle is in between a Tbird and TBS?

Unless you make a custom rear peg modifcation the header shouldn't make a difference to your wifes foot position as the mount for the footpeg will remain the same without modification no matter what header you get.

Pretty easy. You would possibly have to modify the muffler mounting brackets (or make some intermeidate brackets). It is possible that you might have to switch to a TBird sidestand if the TBS one doesnt clear the LH pipe. Also possible that you may have to fiddle with the gearshift linkage to get clearance - I had to modify my TBS linkage a bit to clear the headers when I had that particular combination fitted; I moved the joints and rod to the inboard side (fitted better joints at the same time).

Other than that it should be a bolt on and go.

I believe that the shape of the late TBS pipes and Legend pipes are very different. i.e. its not just a case of a different outlet angle and lack of balance pipe.

I hadn't focusd on the lack of balance pipe issue. I saw another thread where someone is mounting a Tiger downpipe. The discussion also opened up the idea as to why Tiger's had more oomph. Waiting to see the end result. Might make some sense if I can find out the fit issues. Had yet to consider the shifter aspect. Mounting the pegs on a butch plate is no big deal either, as the pipes would need something to hang off of anyhow. would leave easy room for my saddle bags as well (they can hang a bit lower, or maybe the same without worrying about them hitting the pipes).
