Today I decided to remove my fuel tank to remove the loose paint in the neck and figured that while my bike was partially disassembled I would do some additional maintenance.

One item on my list was removing my D&D 3-into-3 exhaust to clean the surface rust developing between the pipes. When I began to remove the last downpipe I noticed the one of the cylinder head bolts was sheared off. (See Image). I do not know when this happened. I've had the bike for two years and this is the first time I've taken off the pipes. Though it could have happened the last time I adjusted my chain and loosened the rear support bracket for the exhaust assembly. In any case, the bike has been running fine. But what do I do now?

I thought about J-B Weld, but it is not recommended for temperatures above 500 F. I imagine the cyclinder head ports and that bolt are about as hot as anything on the engine. Is it hotter than 500F?

Can that part be welded back on?

Also, contrary to the Haynes manual there were no gaskets in the cylinder ports. Should there be?

Thanks for your help.

Rob

I would recomment trying to extract it before welding it. You migth be able to JB Weld it together and then remove the stud from the head.
