Hi there. Looking to install a windscreen on my 99 Legend. Looking at the Givi A600. Does anyone have any experience with this screen, know if it fits the Legend, or have any other suggestions.?

I just got back from Americade where I had a Givi A600 installed on my TBS. It really isn't made for this bike so the Givi guys cut the shield brackets to fit. Then it took a while to actually get the screen to fit on the headlight, over 2 hrs! Not a fun time, but it can be made to fit, and it does look pretty good. The ride home was in the pouring rain so I really wasn't concentrating on the effectivness of the screen, but I did notice that it did not buffet my head around, so that's a good thing. However, I think the seatng positions of our bikes are quite different so I don't know how it would work for you. I did talk to a guy with a Street Shield [ National Cycle ? ] on his Legend and he liked it a lot. It's probably a little taller and wider than the Givi but similar.

Thanks for the advice. I just looked at the Street shield and it does look good, plus its easier to get here than the GIVI. I'm a little bit gunshy of having to cut up a screen that I've never seen fit on a bike before so the National one seems to be winning right now. Thanks for your help. :-D

I can't help you with the A600 but I've got the A770 on my Thunderbird and it went on with no modifications. Took about 10 minutes to install and works great.

I have had the street shield before on another bike, and now have the EX version for winter use. It is too large for my tastes. I am thinking about the F16 though. by the way, the 770 looks nice!

What I liked about the street shield (on my XS1100) was that I could lay it mostly down to take the wind off of my torso (just a little around my shoulders still hit), then if it got real cold or rained, I would raise it up to take the hits. But that would add buffeting, which in rain didn't bother me in the least. On the TBS it is a lot taller versus where I sit and how it mounts. I have seen the F15 mounted on a 04 TBs and just didn't want anything that large, and I didn't like the look -- subjective here.

Cutting a shield is really easy. Just lay a sheet of masking tape over the area of intention, then use a die grinder with a cut off wheel (you can usually find an arbor that will fit a drill motor as well) or a thin blade grinder (can be found cheap). Mark a line, try to verify that will give you a good look over height (personally I prefer to see the ground ~20-25 feet in front of me max when looking over the shield). As always, cut it a little long (especially on the first cut). You can use a fine file and sharp utility knife blade to clean up the edge. I have found used shields on Ebay and scratch and dents at dealers that work well (especially if you want to play).

I likee a mild tint, as I think it tends to have less halo effect (internally reflected light), as well as try to mount it so that the headlight is clearly in front of the opening (for the same reason). Leave a little gap around the headlight area and you wont get as much vacuum behind the shield (all windshields of any size have a little, that's why most touring shields have a slot or pop out in the shield and why Miata's and others offer a net behind the passengers).

Of interest are handguards that National has on listed under cold package. With a mirror mount modification they could look real nice (some Tiger hand guards can be modified, but these might look cool on the right bike).

Thanks for getting me motivated on looking again!

The buffeting from a windscreen will be a new thing for me, having never ridden behind a screen before. I'm looking for a shield to stop some of the regular buffeting from a non-screened bike, plus some protection from suicide bugs and Canadian missiles (pebbles). They lay pebbles through the winter here and while they try to pick them up each spring inevitably some are missed and they come at you real fast. I realise the screen will not stop all things but I figure if I can stop one thing thats a good start.

By the way, thanks for all your input!! :-)

Looked over the F16 specs and the price on Ebay. Probably going to get one. Will likely get the tall, then trim as needed.
