Lately when riding I've noticed that if I hit a bump in the road at speed, I will sometimes get a "slapping" sound with a feel of impact up through the handlbars. It's not harsh, but it's noticeable. Last time I experienced this was on a Kawasaki with blown fork seals. Does this sound like blown fork seals to anyone else? The reason I ask is that the Kawi also had noticeable leakage of oil from the lower fork tubes onto the slider tube, and I'm not getting that at all, so I don't know if my seals are intact or not.
If it's not the seals, could it be that I need fork oil in the tubes? Or that the fork springs are shot? Seems unlikely, but then again, I did manage to blow the rear shock on a near-new Thunderbird, so maybe these bikes just have wimpy springs or else I'm harder on them than the average Englishman is?
Second question, if it is the seals or the springs, am I right in assuming that replacing the seals requires the forks to come off the bike? Because I've been wanting to install new springs and fork gaiters anyway, so if I have to pull the forks off to do the seals, I might as well get all this other work done too, right?
