A quick glance between a legend and a t-bird and it looks to be the same bike?

Thanks!

Just like any fine work of art the more you look at it the more you will see.

The Legend is lower and has a blacked-out engine. Different stock seat and pipes, and the Legend didn't come with the rubber kneepads. The Legend retailed for slightly less.

The Legend also has a 5 speed tranny while the Thunderbird has a 6 speed tranny.

Good point, but that depends on the model year. Early Tbirds prior to 97 were 5-speed.

Another difference, the Legend uses (2) 17" tires, while the Tbirds use a 18" in the front and a 16" in the rear.

The other difference is that the Legend is the one that lives with me.

So... would the six speed on a 2000 tbird (and a year newer with 1,500 fewer miles) be worth a grand more than a 1999 legend (with all the bells and whistles like tank pads, chrome covers, etc)?

grabbing that 6th gear on the highway is pretty sweet. the other stuff can be added. another gear is little more tricky...

I agree the 6-speed is sweet. OTOH, the Legend is a better looking bike, IMO, particularly with the blacked-out motor.

Both bikes are pretty good, though. I'd get whichever one has fewer miles and/or appears to be in better condition. The engines are the same, and you really can't go wrong either way. Since the Classic Triples are no longer being made, just having any classic triple puts you in a pretty unique position as a rider.

That depends on your preferences. If you want a tricked out bike, get the Legend that costs less, but has the most accessories. Accessories can get expensive on these bikes. IMO, having a Legend with a bunch of chrome covers seems a little silly, as the Legends have the understated look with the blacked-out engine.

But I wouldn't say that the 00 Tbird is worth a grand more than an accessorized Legend. And a 1500 miles difference isn't very much at all. Personally I'd go for the Tbird, that 6th gear is pretty nice. But I'd try to negotiate the price and tell the seller about the Legend you are comparing it against.
