Gentlemen, quick question:
I've found a 1998 Corbin solo seat for sale that came off a 1998 Thunderbird. Can that guy fit (or be made to fit easily) my 2000 Bird? The seller says the 98 attaches with a "latch"
I'd love a Corbin but have a feeling that I'm out of luck on this used one. :???:

I can't see how a solo seat would work on a Tbird (unless it had a tail hump) are you sure it was not intended for an Adventurer?

The rear subframe is different on a 98 and a 2000. Apart from the lack of locking hardware I think the profile of the seat rails is different too.

I'm sure Mick will be able to give you a definite answer.

GeeBee1,

If it turns out you can't use it PLEASE allow me to take this guy up on his offer. Again only if you find that you Cant use it. I have a 97 Adventurer and it has a lock poll pointing out of the bottom. The seats have a steal steam the pushes into a hole that is in the frame. The ignition key is then used in the back of the left side panal to unlock the seat (this is also how you get at your helmet lock on this bikes).

I have a picture of the underside of a 96 Adventurer handy if you would like to see it PM me or give me an email address and you can compaire it to what it looks like under your seat.

I'm totally interested if it's not going to work out for you. Finders fee maybe?

The seat won't work on the tbird :-D you should send it to me so I can put it on my legend

But really it will work. You will need to add the lock and drill a hole in the airbox cover on the left side. The bolt holes are on the airbox and the rear frame of the bike for the lock. Because the frames are a little different you may have to play with the rubber bungs under the seat to make it work just right. You can get the lock from either a triumph dealer or a kawa dealer as its off of several kawa bikes. You may also have to reverse the position of the locking pin under the seat so that it will fit. But with a little fiddling you will get a nice comfy seat.

Personally I would send me the seat though and save yourself all the trouble

OK - The guy did send some photos of the pan and confirmed it came off a 98 Thunderbird (not Sport). From those new photos it doesn't show any bar across the back that could be used to bolt the seat to my 2000 frame. So I think some major cobbling would have to be done to make it work which I would rather not attempt.
This means that it's open game to all of you with older models. For pics go to Denver's Craig's list under Motorcycles, http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/160969528.html It's a solo seat, leather with some custom flames stitched to the back. He's asking $200. Happy hunting and thanks for the seat info!

I don't have them handy but I'll get them to you later tonight. Bassically it has a tab that fits under the tank and then close to 18 inches from that tab is a steam that locks into the frame seat lock.

My adventuer has the steam placement closer to 8 inches away.

Hope this helps.

Come on now, a couple of tubes of JB Weld and that sucker would fit a Rocket ! Sometimes a bargain demands sacrifices.
